Alliance Defending Freedom: Upholding Fundamental Rights and Freedoms for All

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is a global legal organization founded in 1994 by leaders in the Christian community. Although most of ADF’s clients are Christians, the organization also supports the rights of Muslims, Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses and people without faith. Concerning the organization’s free speech work, ADF has represented students belonging to different religious faiths as well as conservatives, libertarians and more. Outside the United States, ADF International has helped stop genocide against Christians, Shia Muslims, Yazidis and other religious minorities.

Alliance Defending Freedom supports the principle that religious freedom extends to people of all faith and no faith. Religious freedom certifies that everyone can explore life’s most unquestionable questions and live out one’s religious beliefs in public, just like in a place of worship or at home. The principle is based on human dignity and the constitutional mandate that a government ought to have limited power over its people. Alliance Defending Freedom also ensures that higher learning institutions, such as universities and colleges, remain a place of ideas – where students can freely express their views and discuss essential issues.

Alliance Defending Freedom assures parental rights to help protect their children’s health and welfare. For example, Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit against a Virginia school board that passed policies related to the Critical Race Theory, which discriminates against students based on race. The organization is involved in international work, as it is a renowned organization specializing in legal advocacy.

Its focus in the international arena is to defend religious minorities against persecution and fight for their religious freedom and free speech. ADF is accredited by the European Parliament, the UN Economic and Social Council and the Organization of American States. ADF also has participatory status with the Agency for Fundamental Rights and often indulges with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. See this page for more information.
